Real Madrid are reportedly facing stiff competition from Atletico Madrid in the race to sign 19-year-old German international Karim Adeyemi.
According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Karim Adeyemi is the subject of interest from Atletico Madrid over a move in the summer transfer window. The 19-year-old Red Bull Salzburg striker is also being courted by Real Madrid, in addition to several other top clubs across Europe.
Karim Adeyemi has made quite a splash since joining Red Bull Salzburg three years ago. Now a mainstay in attack for the Austrian giants, the teenage prodigy has been revelling in the role of first-choice striker since the departure of Patson Daka while also breaking into the German national side last month.
The 19-year-old has indeed started the 2021/22 season strongly, with 12 goals and two assists in 17 appearances across all competitions. Suffice to say, his progress has not gone unnoticed, with some of the biggest clubs in Europe setting their sights on him. And two of the prospective suitors in his pursuit are Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
The interest from Real Madrid makes a lot of sense considering Karim Benzema is approaching the twilight of his career. So, laying down the succession plan for the experienced French striker is imperative, and while Erling Haaland is supposed to be the priority option for Los Blancos, the intense competition for his services begets additional options.
Even if Real Madrid end up signing Haaland, the fact that Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz are facing uncertain futures at the Santiago Bernabeu means the Merengues could certainly do with someone like Adeyemi. However, the entry of Atletico Madrid in the picture complicates matters for Real Madrid.
The reigning La Liga champions, though, certainly need to be on the lookout for a striker, seeing as Luis Suarez is in the final phase of his career. So, signing a long-term replacement for the former Barcelona striker has to be a priority for Atletico Madrid, with Adeyemi a viable target to that end.
Apart from Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, the likes of Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool are also keen on signing Adeyemi while Bayern Munich have been touted to be in pole position to sign the 19-year-old German international. With that in mind, it remains to be seen as to what the future holds for the Salzburg prodigy, as he continues to go from strength to strength.
