Arsenal and Liverpool are among the English clubs leading the race for promising Dutch winger Noa Lang
According to Calcio Mercato, Premier League giants Liverpool have joined domestic rivals Arsenal in the fray for promising Netherlands international winger Noa Lang.
The 22-year-old is a versatile attacker capable of fulfilling several positions up front. While he has predominantly started on the left-wing, Lang is proficient on the other flank and as a second striker.
He received his first big break at Ajax Amsterdam in 2019. Lang made history and became the first Ajax player to score a hat-trick on his full league debut in 60 years. His triple on the night saw the Dutch giants see off Twente 5-2. A star was born that night.
Lang spent the 2020/21 campaign on loan at Club Brugge, where he made an excellent impression. The loan deal was made permanent this summer, and he continues to enhance his reputation in the Belgian top flight.
His performances have not gone unnoticed, with Louis van Gaal recently handing him his senior international debut. He has since won a total of two international caps for the Oranje.
Both Liverpool and Arsenal could do with a versatile attacker with room to grow. The Reds already have a formidable front three, with Diogo Jota also in the mix. However, a long term replacement for Sadio Mane is imperative, and Lang can certainly fit that bill.
The 22-year-old is still brought around the edges and will need some guidance to take his game to the next level. In Jurgen Klopp, he can have a manager who can do that and more. There are few better than the German in developing elite talent.
Lang could go on to become a real star in the years to come. The Reds will need to infuse young blood into their ranks and plan for life in the coming years. The 22-year-old and the Merseysiders could thus prove to be a marriage made in heaven.
Arsenal, for their part, will certainly be able to offer Lang more playtime right off the bat. The Gunners are in a position of refit and will need the right pieces to get their rebuild going.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is not getting younger, while Alexander Lacazette will be out of contract next summer. With Nicolas Pepe proving a bust, bringing in an attacking talent could prove to be an inspired purchase.
Lang will find more clubs lining up to land him should he continue to perform at a similar level. Whether either Liverpool or Arsenal will make an effort to land the player in the coming windows remains to be seen.
