Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule is on the radar of Newcastle United, who are intent on signing a few Bundesliga players next summer.
A recent report from Sport Bild has offered details on Newcastle United’s potential market policy after being successfully taken over by the Saudi backed consortium. Their new owner Mohamed Bin Salman is apparently intent on making the Magpies the best team in the world, with the club already identifying several Bundesliga players as potential targets.
One of those potential Bundesliga players targeted by the Magpies is Niklas Sule. The Bayern Munich defender is joined by the likes of Filip Kostic, Timo Werner and Philippe Coutinho in the long list of players the club is set to target once the new owners start splashing the cash.
Newcastle’s interest in Sule is fairly understandable as the defender is facing an uncertain future at Bayern Munich. The 26-year-old’s current contract in Bavaria expires at the end of the season, with neither side being able to begin any talks over a contract extension.
On the contrary, the Bundesliga champions have been linked with a swoop for Chelsea’s defensive stalwart Antonio Rudiger, one would assume, as a direct replacement for Sule.
A former member of the Hoffenheim youth academy, Sule is considered a vital part of the Bayern backline at the moment. But he is slowly falling behind Lucas Hernandez and Dayot Upamecano in the pecking order while the young and exciting Chris Richards is making a case for himself with his performances at Hoffenheim.
In that regard, Bayern might be open to offloading Sule after the end of the season. The 26-year-old’s potential status as a free agent has already lured the interest from Chelsea, although it appears the Blues are now set to face stiff competition from Newcastle United.
Sule is not the only defender on the sights of the Newcastle United, though. Recently, the Magpies have been linked with a sensational swoop for Juventus duo Federico Chiesa and Matthijs de Ligt, who is considered the best young talent in Europe.
However, the Dutchman might prove to be a bit too unrealistic option for Newcastle United at the moment given their lack of sporting perspectives. But in Sule, they could definitely land themselves a talented, experienced star, who has the potential of emerging as a future defensive leader for the club.
