Real Madrid have reportedly set their sights on Ferran Torres and are considering a move for the 21-year-old Spanish international.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid have unsurprising had scouts present during the UEFA Nations League finals this past week, with special attention on the game between Spain and France. And one of the players on their radar was Ferran Torres.
Ferran Torres has continued his upward trajectory since joining Manchester City from Valencia. While he has not started most of the games at the Etihad as he used to do with Los Che, has still made significant progress in his career, and has been particularly promising as a striker. To date, the 21-year-old has turned out 43 times for City, garnering a tally of 16 goals and four assists.
The Spanish international has also impressed as a striker for his national side, most recently scoring a match-winning brace in the UEFA Nations League semi-final against Italy. And it is that performance which seems to have piqued the interest of Real Madrid.
The Spanish giants have been reported to be on the lookout for attacking options in the transfer market keeping next summer’s transfer window in mind. And it appears as if Real Madrid might not suffice with just Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe, even if they manage to sign both their priority targets.
That is because Marco Asensio is facing an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu while Eden Hazard’s fitness woes and subsequent inconsistencies are forcing Real Madrid to contemplate a possible sale. In addition, Gareth Bale is in the final year of his contract with Los Blancos and likely to depart the club as a free agent next summer.
With that in mind, Torres does appear to be a viable target for the Merengues, who have scouted multiple attacking players in the four UEFA Nations League games played in the ongoing international break. Some of these names include Bryan Gil, Mikel Oyarzabal and Yeremi Pino, in addition to Mbappe himself. And Torres is a viable target as well.
Most recently linked with Barcelona, the 21-year-old has been coy on the prospect of returning to La Liga. However, it remains to be seen if the interest from Real Madrid can turn Torres’s head or if the Spanish international chooses to stay put with Manchester City.
