Real Madrid are reportedly considering a €50 million move for 22-year-old Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni.
According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Real Madrid are determined to sign Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan in a future transfer window. To that end, the Spanish giants are preparing a €50 million bid to swoop the 22-year-old away from the Serie A champions.
Alessandro Bastoni has blossomed into one of the best defenders in Serie A since enjoying his breakthrough in senior football under the tutelage of Antonio Conte. Indeed, in two seasons under the Italian tactician, the youngster did not just become a key figure for Inter Milan but also broke into his national side.
To date, the 22-year-old has turned out 82 times for the Nerazzurri, chipping in with two goals and five assists in the process. And after playing a critical part in Inter’s Serie A triumph, his form has continued to be at a high level early in 2021/22. However, the Italian club’s precarious financial situation means a suitor – Real Madrid – is hopeful of landing Bastoni in future.
Real Madrid have only recently set their sights on Bastoni, with Carlo Ancelotti being a keen admirer of his talents. And Los Blancos do appear to be in need of signing a centre-back at the earliest possible opportunity.
That is because following the departures of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane, David Alaba was the only addition to the defensive unit. As a result, there has been a clear drop off in levels at the back for Real Madrid, with Eder Militao being prone to the odd positional error while the same can be said about Alaba as well.
Meanwhile, Nacho is a dependable option, but he is best used as a backup to the first-choice centre-backs, which is why it has now become imperative for Real Madrid to sign a central defender, making Bastoni a viable target. And as per the report, the Merengues are plotting a €50 million move for the 22-year-old.
Real Madrid are hopeful that the aforementioned €50 million offer will be enough to swoop him away from Inter Milan, owing to the Serie A champions’ financial difficulties. However, if they fail to land Bastoni, there appear to be plenty of alternatives available as well, especially with Antonio Rudiger being a potential target over a Bosman move.
