Barcelona, Real Madrid and Chelsea are all interested in signing Matthijs de Ligt, who could leave Serie A giants Juventus next summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Matthijs de Ligt is once again set to become one of the hottest properties in the transfer market following Mino Raiola’s recent comments. The 22-year-old Juventus defender is now being pursued by Barcelona, Real Madrid and Chelsea.
Matthijs de Ligt joined Juventus from Ajax in the summer of 2019 following a brilliant stint with the Dutch giants. One of the most promising young defenders of his generation, the Dutch international was also the club captain for Ajax while still in his teens. At Juventus, though, it has not exactly been smooth sailing for the player.
To date, de Ligt has made 79 appearances for Juventus, chipping in with five goals and two assists along the way. However, his future at the Allianz Stadium is uncertain following recent comments by his agent Mino Raiola. And such a situation has piqued the interest of some of the biggest clubs in the world in Barcelona, Real Madrid and Chelsea.
Barcelona are likely to enter the transfer market for a centre-back next summer amid uncertainty surrounding Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti, both of whom have disappointed with their inconsistencies and/or fitness issues. As a result, Barcelona have been scouring around for a centre-back, with de Ligt being one of the players on their radar.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, are in desperate need of a central defender despite the addition of David Alaba, seeing as Nacho is on the wrong side of 30 and only likely to be used sparingly when Carlo Ancelotti has all of his resources at his disposal. To that end, de Ligt has popped up on the radar of Real Madrid in recent times, among other options.
Meanwhile, Chelsea had been keen on signing a centre-back in the summer, with Jules Kounde being their priority. However, the Blues were unable to agree terms with Sevilla over a deal, with a move for Kounde being put off till the January window. However, de Ligt is also an option under consideration at Chelsea.
It is still unclear whether Juventus are going to battle hard to keep hold of de Ligt. Having said that, a major transfer battle seems to be setting up for the services of the 22-year-old, if he does leave the Serie A heavyweights, with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Chelsea battling hard for him.
