Real Madrid are reportedly weighing up a move for 20-year-old French defender Wesley Fofana, who admitted to his dream of playing for the club recently.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Wesley Fofana has once again popped up on Real Madrid’s radar. This time around, the Spanish giants are considering a summer move for the 20-year-old French defender, who recently confessed to his dream of playing for the club.
Wesley Fofana joined Leicester City from Saint-Etienne last summer and made an instant impact at the King Power Stadium. Having taken no time to make his mark in England, the youngster quickly established himself as a key player for the Foxes, establishing a solid partnership with Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu.
To date, the 20-year-old has made 38 appearances for Leicester while chipping in with an assist along the way. However, the French defender is already done for the season after picking up a long-term leg injury in a pre-season friendly with Villarreal. However, that issue has not done anything to sway the interest of Real Madrid.
The Merengues were, in fact, hot on the trails of the young centre-back in the summer transfer window as well before the untimely injury put paid to their hopes of signing him. The interest does not seem to have waned much, with the continued pursuit of Fofana being understandable as well.
While David Alaba is a quality addition to the defensive unit, it is still unclear whether he will be used a centre-back in the long run. Even if he is, Carlo Ancelotti only has Eder Militao and Nacho as the reliable options at his disposal apart from the Austrian international. So, it is imperative that Real Madrid enter the market for a centre-back, especially with Nacho on the wrong side of 30.
To that end, Fofana is a viable target for Los Blancos, who could have a clear run at him following his admission that they are the club of his dreams. The 20-year-old, though, is not the only central defender being pursued by Real Madrid, who also have Niklas Sule, Antonio Rudiger and Jules Kounde on their shortlist.

While Sule and Rudiger could potentially be free transfer options, Fofana would prove to be a longer term option. So, which way Real Madrid sway towards next summer, as they look to bolster their defence for a second successive year.
