Barcelona are reportedly considering a Bosman move for 25-year-old Italian international Lorenzo Pellegrini for next summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Lorenzo Pellegrini is once again the subject of interest from Barcelona over a move in next summer’s transfer window. The 25-year-old is in the final year of his contract with AS Roma, meaning he could join the Catalan giants on a free transfer next year.
Lorenzo Pellegrini has come into his own since returning to AS Roma from Sassuolo in the summer of 2017. Widely regarded as one of the most promising young midfielders in Serie A at the time, the 25-year-old has gone from strength to strength, even becoming the club captain at Stadio Olimpico.
To date, Pellegrini has made 157 appearances for Roma, chipping in with 24 goals and 36 assists in the process. However, the Giallorossi decision makers would be sweating over the future of the player, seeing as he has entered the final year of his contract with the club. And such a situation has piqued the interest of Barcelona, who are now keen on signing the Italian international.
Barcelona are in urgent need of signing a midfielder, even though Sergi Roberto is once again an option to be deployed in the middle of the park. That is because with Sergio Busquets, Frenkie de Jong and Pedri shouldering almost all of the burden in midfield, it is high time Ronald Koeman was handed an additional choice
Indeed, following the departures of Miralem Pjanic and Ilaix Moriba in the summer transfer window, Barcelona do appear to be shortchanged in midfield, especially with Riqui Puig not being a major part of Koeman’s plans.
How Philippe Coutinho will fare following his return from injury is also a big if, which is why it is imperative that Barcelona sign a midfielder, making Pellegrini a viable target. Apart from the 25-year-old, Barcelona have also been linked with several other midfielders like Dani Olmo, Franck Kessie and Marcelo Brozovic.

However, it is Pellegrini, Kessie and Brozovic and who appear to be the most attractive options, if they run down their respective deals at AS Roma, AC Milan and Inter Milan. For now, Pellegrini is becoming a major target for Barcelona and it remains to be seen if AS Roma can rebuff the interest in the 25-year-old by tying him down to a new contract.
