Everton are in talks with FC Porto over potentially signing Luis Diaz, with James Rodriguez possibly going the other way on a loan deal.
According to Sky Sports, Everton are in discussions with FC Porto over the transfer of Luis Diaz with James Rodriguez potentially going the other way in a loan deal. The details of a possible agreement are still under wraps, although it is expected to be a late transaction if a transfer does materialise.
Everton have suddenly come into the spotlight in light of other deals happening around Europe. While it seemed like Rafael Benitez has a settled squad ready for the season, things have taken a turn, with many of their star names linked with moves away.
The transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United has sparked stories about Juventus replacing the Portuguese with their former prodigy and current Everton striker Moise Kean. The young Italian spent last season on loan with PSG, and the Merseysiders are willing to let him go but only on a permanent deal.
Elsewhere, star forward Richarlison is also linked with replacing Kylian Mbappe at PSG. Real Madrid are expected to make a move for the French superstar. However, Benitez took the opportunity of the pre-game press conference to squash rumours linking the Brazilian with a move away.
Meanwhile, Everton also are dealing with the possibility of James Rodriguez leaving the club before the transfer window shuts. The Colombian is expected to depart after finding himself out of favour under Benitez, with Porto touted as a possible destination.
Everton are also interested in Porto star Luis Diaz and are exploring the opportunity to sign the Colombian. The Toffees are willing to allow Rodriguez to join the Portuguese side on loan as part of the deal for Diaz. It’s unclear whether Porto will be interested in such a deal.
Rodriguez has made it clear numerous times that he wishes to leave after Carlo Ancelotti’s departure to take over at Real Madrid. Benitez has acknowledged the situation with the Colombian and is reportedly working hard with the club to find a solution, although no viable offers have been forthcoming.
In terms of Diaz, he could be a good signing after rising through different stages of his club career so far. Everton could add him and improve their attacking options for the season, considering that he can play on the left flank or as a centre-forward. The 24-year-old finished as the joint-highest goalscorer in the 2021 Copa America with Colombia and has started the new season on a strong note as well for Porto.
Having recently been linked with the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham, Diaz could very well end up in the Premier League before the transfer window closes. However, with Everton having already opened talks with Porto, they could potentially be the frontrunners to capture the signing of the Colombian international.
