Aston Villa and Crystal Palace are reportedly among the clubs keen on signing Weston McKennie, who is also a target for Tottenham.
According to the print edition of Italian publication Tuttosport, as relayed by Sport Witness, the race to sign Weston McKennie before the summer transfer window slams shut is heating up. Aston Villa and Crystal Palace are the latest clubs to show an interest in the Juventus midfielder, who is also a target for Tottenham Hotspur.
Weston McKennie has made quite an impression since joining Juventus from Schalke. Initially signed on loan, the 22-year-old was one of the better performers for the Serie A giants, who chose to sign him permanently this summer. However, McKennie is now facing an uncertain future at the Allianz Stadium since the return of Massimiliano Allegri.
As per recent reports, McKennie, who has a tally of six goals and three assists in 46 appearances for Juventus, could be leaving the Bianconeri soon, with a bevy of top clubs across Europe keen on signing him. One of his key suitors are Tottenham Hotspur, with Aston Villa and Crystal Palace now joining him in his pursuit.
The interest from Tottenham makes a lot of sense, considering Tanguy Ndombele does not seem to be featuring in Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans while Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks also have a lot of question marks surrounding their respective futures at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. As a result, McKennie has emerged as a viable target for Spurs.
In fact, the north Londoners have also made an offer for McKennie already, as per recent reports. However, Tottenham now face stiff competition from Aston Villa and Crystal Palace in his pursuit. Aston Villa could be in for him to replace Ross Barkley, who has not been signed permanently.
On the other hand, Crystal Palace need quality options in midfield apart from Conor Gallagher, who is on loan from Chelsea. According to Tuttosport, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace are all carefully monitoring his situation at Juventus.
However, as per the report, McKennie is not impressed by the options in front of him, and will continue to wait it out before taking a final call on his future. What now remains to be seen is if Tottenham, Aston Villa or Crystal Palace can manage to convince the 22-year-old to leave Juventus and join them. An intriguing last few days of the summer beckon the youngster.
