Liverpool reportedly want to begin discussions to sign 19-year-old Belgian international Jeremy Doku, who is valued at around €45 million by Rennes.
According to Portuguese journalist Pedro Almeida, Liverpool seem to be stepping up their efforts to sign Jeremy Doku in the summer transfer window. The 19-year-old Belgian international is valued at around €45 million by Stade Rennais, who are reportedly reluctant to part ways with him.
Jeremy Doku joined Stade Rennais from Anderlecht last summer and has been nothing short of impressive since then. A regular feature for the Ligue 1 outfit in the 2020/21 season, he has raked in a tally two goals and four assists so far in 37 appearances.
While the 19-year-old was not exactly prolific, his performances have raised the eyebrows of some of the biggest clubs in Europe, who have been attracted further by his exploits for Belgium at UEFA Euro 2020. While a number of prospective suitors have emerged in the youngster’s pursuit, it is Liverpool who have been credited with the most serious interest in Doku.
In fact, it has even been speculated that the Reds have already submitted an enquiry for the teenage prodigy over a potential move in the summer transfer window. However, as per Pedro Almeida, Liverpool are looking to open talks to discuss the situation of Doku.
The interest from Liverpool is understandable, despite the presence of two of the best attacking players in Europe in Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. That is because both the players are set to become unavailable for the Merseyside giants at the turn of the year due to their participation at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Even when they are available, it is prudent for Jurgen Klopp to have options at his disposal, seeing as Xherdan Shaqiri is set to depart Anfield this summer. To that end, Doku is a viable target for Liverpool, one who can initially be a rotation option alongside Diogo Jota and Harvey Elliott before eventually becoming a first-choice option.
However, snapping him up will not be cheap, with Rennes slapping a €45 million price tag on the 19-year-old. What now remains to be seen is if Liverpool can move quickly in pursuit of Doku and if they are willing to meet his €45 million valuation.
