Real Madrid are reportedly seriously considering a move for Manuel Locatelli, who appears set to leave Sassuolo this summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid have once again emerged in pursuit of Manuel Locatelli. The 23-year-old Italian international appears set to leave Sassuolo in the summer transfer window, with Juventus reportedly being his likeliest destination.
Locatelli has made quite a career for himself since leaving AC Milan to join Sassuolo. Initially signed on loan in the summer of 2018, the youngster was so impressive that the Neroverdi gladly secured his services on a permanent deal a year later, with the player being a regular for them ever since then.
Since arriving at the Mapei Stadium, the 23-year-old has amassed 99 appearances for Sassuolo while chipping in with seven goals and 11 assists along the way. This summer, he was also impressive for Italy at UEFA Euro 2020 and with that in mind, it is hardly surprising that clubs have been lining up for his signature, with one such suitor being Real Madrid.
This is not the first time that Real Madrid have been linked with Locatelli, with Los Blancos being in the market for a midfield reinforcement. Indeed, with Luka Modric already into the twilight of his storied career, it is imperative that the Merengues lay down a succession plan for the Croat.
To make matters more concerning, Toni Kroos will miss the start of the season. And with Martin Odegaard being heavily linked with Arsenal of late, the need to sign a central midfielder has surely accentuated in the past week or so. To that end, Locatelli is a viable target for Real Madrid.
The Spanish giants have also been linked with several other central midfielders, including Eduardo Camavinga, with the report stressing that Leon Goretzka and Nicolo Barella are also on their radar this summer. As for Locatelli, he has been heavily linked with Juventus, who have been reported to be the favourites to land the 23-year-old.
For now, what appears to be certain is that Locatelli could be leaving Sassuolo before the summer transfer window slams shut. However, with Real Madrid reigniting their interest in the Italian international, it will be interesting to see if he chooses not to join Juventus.
