Crystal Palace are showing an interest in Sampdoria midfielder Ronaldo Vieira, although they face stiff competition from other English sides.
According to Transfermarketweb, Ronaldo Vieira is attracting interest from English clubs, with Crystal Palace the latest to join the queue. The Sampdoria midfielder is available for transfer and is attracting widespread interest from England and other leagues.
Ronaldo Vieira’s career hasn’t exactly gone to plan since his move to Sampdoria from Leeds United back in 2018. The midfielder played over 60 Championship games for the Yorkshire based side and had a decent start in Italy.
Vieira accumulated decent appearances for Sampdoria, playing regularly in his first two seasons. However, he was loaned out to Hellas Verona the last term and had a rather underwhelming campaign. The midfielder was only used for four games in the league and once in a cup tie. And now, Sampdoria might be ready to sell him.
The Italian side cannot imagine recouping the €6 million plus fee they paid, and the final figure could be lower. There is plenty of interest in the midfielder, with Fenerbache thought as front runners early on in the window. Plenty of English sides have registered interest since, and a return to England could tempt Vieira.
Crystal Palace are the latest side to show a keenness, as new manager Patrick Vieira looks to bolster his squad further. The London club endured a difficult summer which saw plenty of first-team players depart upon expiry of their contracts, leaving the club to conduct a massive rebuild.
Under the French manager, the club have done a fairly impressive job so far. The high profile signings of Chelsea youngster Marc Guehi was followed up with the signing of Lyon defender and Tottenham target Joachim Andersen on a permanent deal, while the club also wrapped up the loan signing of Chelsea youngster Conor Gallagher lately.
In addition to those players, Palace also prised away exciting QPR teenager Michael Olise, building a squad full of talented youngsters mixed with experienced professionals who remain.
The interest in Ronaldo Vieira is not surprising, as the manager would still need talented players to add depth to the team. Despite a dismal last season, Vieira still has the talent to make himself useful and become a pivotal member of the Palace squad. Additionally, he will also be a cheaper acquisition.
Sampdoria will be looking to sell him outright, as he only has two years left on his deal. Despite his return from Verona, they don’t expect too much of a contribution from him. As for Palace, they are quite busy wrapping up deals before the season begins next weekend, with the latest name linked being that of Blackburn Rovers striker Adam Armstrong. Ronaldo Vieira, too, could be a good signing to add depth in midfield.
