Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly joined Barcelona and Liverpool in the race to sign Renato Sanches from Lille this summer.
According to a report by Transfer Market Web, the race to sign Renato Sanches in the summer transfer window is intensifying. Tottenham Hotspur are the latest club to show serious interest in the Portuguese international, who is also courting interest from Barcelona and Liverpool.
Renato Sanches joined Lille in the summer of 2019, bringing an end to a colossal failure that was his stint at Bayern Munich, where he just could not settle down. The switch to Stade Pierre Mauroy, though, has worked wonders for the 23-year-old, who has not only regained confidence but also made a return to the Portuguese national side.
At club level, Sanches was a key part of the team that sent shockwaves across Europe by winning the Ligue 1 title ahead of Paris Saint-Germain last season.
To date, the youngster has turned out 59 times for Lille, chipping in with five goals and as many assists along the way. And his progress over the last couple of seasons has alerted the likes of Barcelona, Liverpool and Tottenham.
The interest of Barcelona makes a world of sense, considering Miralem Pjanic is not in Ronald Koeman’s plans for the upcoming season whereas Ilaix Moriba could well be on his way out of the Nou Camp as well amid a contract standoff with the Blaugrana. Therefore, it is hardly surprising that Barcelona will need to sign a central midfielder this summer, with Sanches a viable target.
As for Liverpool, they have been hot on the trails of the 23-year-old for quite some time now, with the hunt for a long-term replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum still ongoing. To that end, someone like Sanches fits the bill perfectly for the Reds, who can have a like-for-like replacement for the Dutchman in the 23-year-old.
Tottenham, meanwhile, have been linked briefly with Sanches previously, although they do need to be on the lookout for a midfielder amid uncertainties surrounding the future of Harry Winks. With Moussa Sissoko well into his thirties, it is sensible for Spurs to start phasing him out and bring in someone like Sanches.
Recent reports have suggested that Lille might be open to cashing in on the Portuguese midfielder amid their financial woes, borne out of the coronavirus pandemic. What now remains to be seen is who among Barcelona, Liverpool and Tottenham end up prevailing in pursuit of the youngster, as a big summer beckons him.
