Leeds United are keeping track of two of Rangers’ star players in Ryan Kent and Glen Kamara this summer.
Following a successful 2020/21 campaign, Rangers are poised for a summer of change. Although the newly-crowned Scottish champions are not too keen on making too many changes in their squad, their two star players in Ryan Kent and Glen Kamara are facing an uncertain future at the club, effectively putting Leeds United on alert, reports GiveMeSport.
Both Kent and Kamara’s contract in Glasgow expires in 2023, and it is believed they are eyeing new deals. While they are not definitively interested in leaving Rangers, a sale is always a possibility given the fact that the club will have to settle for a cut-price exchange if they fail to offload these two in the ongoing summer transfer window and a new deal is not signed.
The entire situation is being closely followed by Leeds United, who were one of the top contenders to sign Kent last summer. The player ended up remaining at Ibrox, which turned out to be a wise decision, as the former Liverpool prodigy ended up starring in a successful season with a total of 28 goal involvements in all competitions.
His performances were essential in helping Rangers break Celtic’s hegemony over Scottish football. The same can be said for Kamara, with the Finnish international being an ever-present figure in Steven Gerrard’s midfield setup. He was also involved in Euro 2020 with Finland, although the first-time participants were knocked out of the group stage.
As a matter of fact, Kamara has gained far more traction than Kent, with the 25-year-old being linked with a move to former club Arsenal last month. The Gunners have since brought in Albert Sambi Lokonga, potentially clearing the path for Leeds United to acquire his services this summer. The Finnish international should serve as an excellent competitor for Mateusz Klich in the middle of the park.
As for Kent, he is likely to fill in for Helder Costa, who has been linked with a move elsewhere. The former Liverpool prodigy may also become a valuable long-term investment for the club, especially with Raphinha being linked with a move to either of the Manchester clubs earlier in the summer, although things have gone quiet on that front of late.
However, signing Kent and Kamara might not be as easy as Rangers will be determined to keep hold of their star players in an effort to seal yet another Scottish Premiership title next season. However, Leeds United have no shortage of alternatives, with Mikkel Damsgaard already a target for Marcelo Bielsa and co.
