Transfer News: Leeds United told to pay £10 million for Lewis O’Brien

Huddersfield Town have slapped a £10 million price tag on the head of Lewis O’Brien, a top Leeds United target this summer.

According to an exclusive report from The Sun, Leeds United have been asked to fork out £10 million in pursuit of Lewis O’Brien. The Huddersfield Town midfielder has emerged as the latest target for Marcelo Bielsa, who is keen on shoring up his options in the middle of the park.

The two clubs from Yorkshire have intensified talks over a potential transfer this summer. But Huddersfield are apparently holding out for a fee of £10 million. It remains to be seen whether Leeds United are open to matching their demands, although the club is open to offering players in exchange in an attempt to sweeten the deal.

A native of Colchester, Lewis O’Brien has enjoyed a swift rise to prominence since his promotion to the senior side in 2019. The youngster quickly made his breakthrough in professional football, appearing in 38 league matches during the 2019/20 campaign.

Overall, the midfielder has notched up 82 competitive appearances to his name in the span of just two seasons. It is indicative of his energy and stamina, two things that make O’Brien such an appealing target for Leeds United. Not to mention, the Englishman is quite a versatile operator as he can feature as an attacking midfielder, in addition to his traditional box to box role.

The 22-year-old is not afraid to penetrate the opposition lines either, having been involved in 19 career goals so far. It makes him an ideal cost-effective alternative for top target Conor Gallagher, who opted to join Crystal Palace instead.

Another midfield target for Leeds United this summer was Nahitan Nandez of Cagliari. Unfortunately, the Yorkshire outfit haven’t had much success on that front either, thus paving the way for them to make a move for Lewis O’Brien.

The Huddersfield Town midfielder may not have the experience at the highest level of football. But he has shown tremendous talent and potential during his time with the Terriers. His style of play suits Bielsa’s footballing philosophy as well, and for a fee of just £10 million, he could indeed be a bargain for the Whites this summer.

Meanwhile, Leeds United have recently roped in goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson, joining from Valerenga for a fee of around £1 million. He is set to serve as a direct replacement for Kiko Casilla, whose loan move to Elche was sanctioned earlier in July.
