Manchester United are reportedly closing in on the capture of Saul Niguez and Kieran Trippier as they continue their summer swoop.
After roping in Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, Manchester United are eyeing further reinforcements, with a report from El Gol Digital suggesting they are in contention to secure a sensational double deal for Atletico Madrid duo Saul Niguez and Kieran Trippier.
Both the players are available in the market, with Trippier, in particular, being highly rated by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Englishman has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for a long time as well and could be all set to don the Manchester United red next season for a fee of around €30 million.
The addition of Trippier will offer some much-needed competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka. It will also add more quality in a Manchester United defensive setup that was already boosted by the recent arrival of Varane from Real Madrid.
As for Saul, the Atletico Madrid midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool. The Reds are even willing to offer €40 million, in addition to one of their fringe players in Xherdan Shaqiri. However, Atleti are not interested in Shaqiri and instead want Liverpool club captain Jordan Henderson.
It has put Manchester United in the driver’s seat as the Red Devils are reportedly willing to fork out €50 million for Saul. The Spaniard should be a massive coup for Solskjaer, further strengthening their ranks in the creative midfield department.
However, it does raise questions over the future of Paul Pogba. Solskjaer has recently insisted that the player is looking forward to the new season, but amid links with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, it won’t be surprising to see the French international leave Manchester United in the summer.
In fact, Pogba’s departure could be vital for Manchester United, as far as funding a combined fee of €80 million for Saul and Trippier is concerned. In addition to the midfielder, Solskjaer may also offload a bunch of other fringe players, with Phil Jones notably emerging as a target for West Ham and Everton this summer.
Saul’s potential arrival may also lead to the sale of the attacking trio of Daniel James, Donny van de Beek and Jesse Lingard, another Everton and West Ham target, whereas Diogo Dalot could be in danger of losing his prospects at Old Trafford, should Trippier join Manchester United in the summer.

Either way, Manchester United’s ambition in the transfer market this summer should serve as a massive signal of intent, as the Premier League giants finally look to compete with Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City for the Premier League title next season.
