Manchester United have reportedly been offered a chance to sign Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior by La Liga bigwigs Real Madrid this summer.
According to a report from the Mirror, Real Madrid are looking to offload Brazilian prodigy Vinicius Junior this summer and have offered his services to Manchester United during the talks over a deal for Raphael Varane.
Vinicius arrived at Real Madrid in the summer of 2018, a year after a deal was agreed to sign him from Brazilian outfit Flamengo. The versatile forward, who cost Los Blancos £36 million in transfer fees, has shown glimpses of his unbridled potential during his time in Spain, but the lack of consistency has often left fans frustrated.
Indeed, in 118 appearances for Real Madrid thus far, the 21-year-old has managed to score just 15 goals, with his end product in the final third often letting him down. Nonetheless, Vinicius is a player with immense promise, who, with a bit of polishing, can reach the top level, and Real Madrid are hoping to make the most of his potential by cashing in on him this summer.
It is claimed that the Merengues’ president, Florentino Perez, is intent on signing Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain, which would mean he will need to generate funds by offloading some of his current players, which is why Vinicius has been now offered to Manchester United in the ongoing transfer window.
The Red Devils are already on the verge of completing a successful raid on Real Madrid for defender Raphael Varane, with a deal said to be in place to sign the Frenchman. And, it is during these talks that the Spanish capital outfit have proposed that Manchester United also sign Vinicius Junior.
As things stand, Manchester United have enough options in the wide areas in Marcus Rashford, Daniel James, Mason Greenwood, Amad Diallo and Facundo Pellistri while Jadon Sancho is also expected to arrive imminently. However, Pellistri is expected to head out on loan again while James has been linked with an exit of late, with Leicester City the latest club registering an interest in the Welshman.
With there being question marks over the future of Anthony Martial as well, Mason Greenwood might find himself playing much more regularly as a centre-forward, potentially opening up a slot in the wide-attacking roles. It must also be noted that Rashford is set to miss a significant period at the start of the season due to an imminent surgery.
So, someone like Vinicius could be an option worth looking at for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer & co., as he could add that bit of verve and flair in attack for Manchester United. Real Madrid, though, value the 21-year-old at a whopping £68.5 million, which makes a deal highly improbable to go through.
The report, however, does suggest that the Merengues could be open to a loan deal with an obligation to buy at the end of the season. It will certainly be interesting to see if Manchester United do look at adding another wide player to the ranks this summer and if it ends up being Vinicius.
