Leeds United have reportedly made an approach for SD Huesca full-back Javi Galan, who is close to leaving the Spanish outfit this summer.
According to a report from the print edition of AS, as relayed by Sport Witness, Leeds United have made a move to secure the signing of SD Huesca’s Spanish defender Javi Galan in the ongoing transfer window.
Galan has been with Huesca since January 2019 after having signed from Cordoba. To date, the 26-year-old has featured 83 times for the club, scoring two goals and setting up five more. He was an ever-present for the minnows in the 2020/21 La Liga campaign, featuring in 37 of the 38 games, impressing even as Huesca suffered the fate of relegation.
Following the drop to La Liga 2, Huesca are having to part ways with some of their better players this summer, with Galan among those who are on the exit ramps as he enters the final year of his contract. And Leeds United have taken a keen interest in the Spaniard, with the club having ‘knocked on the doors’ of the left-back as per the report.
Leeds United needed to strengthen their left-back department this summer following the exits of Ezgjan Alioski and Barry Douglas, although the latter had spent the last season away on loan. The Whites did exactly that by securing the services of Junior Firpo from Barcelona earlier this summer, but another signing in the position would not be the worst idea for Marcelo Bielsa & co.
Apart from the new arrival Firpo, Leeds have Leif Davis as the other option at left-back, who featured just two times in the Premier League last term. While Stuart Dallas can always drop in and fill in at the full-back slots, he has been a different player when deployed higher up the pitch. With Leeds keen on making a push for Europe, ensuring adequate squad depth becomes a necessity.
That is where a signing like Galan could come in handy. The 26-year-old was linked with a move to Barcelona as well not long ago, which should provide an indicator of his performance levels last season. Furthermore, following Huesca’s relegation, the Spaniard’s release clause stands at just €4 million – a sum that should be affordable for the Whites.
Apart from Leeds, Galan is also attracting interest from La Liga club Sevilla, the report adds. So, Bielsa & co. will have to act swiftly in case they wish to capture the transfer of the 26-year-old from Huesca this summer.
