Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs eyeing a summer swoop for Olympique Lyonnais defender Joachim Anderson.
According to a recent report from Foot Mercato, Lyon are bracing themselves for the potential departure of Joachim Andersen. The Ligue 1 outfit is expected to undergo a major downsizing in light of the financial crises caused by the pandemic. As a result, they are ready to cash in on Andersen for a fee of just €30 million.
It has put Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur on red alert, as the two Premier League giants look to bring the Danish international back to England.
A centre-back by trade, Andersen spent the 2020/21 campaign on loan at Fulham. He was one of the bright sparks in an otherwise dire campaign for the Cottagers, who were ultimately relegated. Although the former Sampdoria defender was not a first-team star for Denmark in the European Championship, he has impressed enough to attract suitors like Tottenham and Manchester United.
Tottenham, in particular, have been linked with a move for Andersen for a long time now. And it appears the recent appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo has helped them speed up their pursuit of a new centre-back. The club is already interested in a host of talented centre-back across Europe, including Chelsea target Maxence Lacroix.
Manchester United are not far behind either, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes to find a reliable alternative for Victor Lindelof. The Red Devils have been linked with a sensational swoop for Raphael Varane, but that move has stalled recently.
It has forced Solskjaer to explore other options in the market. Manchester United have even expressed their desire to sign Barcelona outcast Samuel Umtiti, although they are more likely to jump in on someone like Andersen.
The Dane has the experience of Premier League football, having featured in 31 league games for Fulham last season. He has impressed the onlookers, and especially Tottenham and Manchester United, with his technical brilliance and leadership, even captaining the Cottagers for a time.
A fee of €30 million could be an absolute bargain for a player of Andersen’s calibre. He can prove to be an excellent addition to both Manchester United and Tottenham, and with Lyon suffering from a financial crisis, they have the opportunity of making a smart investment this summer.
