Liverpool are reportedly among the clubs interested in Jeremy Doku, although Rennes are persistent in keeping hold of the 19-year-old Belgian prodigy.
Italian journalist Rudy Galetti has offered an update on the situation of Jeremy Doku. The Rennes winger turned many heads with his performances for Belgium in Euro 2020, with many clubs, including Liverpool, submitting an enquiry regarding a potential move this summer.
However, Rennes are determined to keep hold of the youngster and working on keeping him at the club for the near future. The 19-year-old prodigy himself is happy at the club, appearing unwilling to switch allegiances despite a successful season in Ligue 1.
A product of the Anderlecht youth academy, Doku enjoyed his breakthrough this past season, notching up 30 appearances in Ligue 1. Although his tally of two goals and three assists were not exactly appealing, the winger raised many eyebrows in the European Championship.
Replacing the injured Eden Hazard in the game against Italy, the 19-year-old was almost unstoppable, offering a bright spark in the final third. It has caught the attention of many coaches around Europe, including Jurgen Klopp, as the Liverpool manager hopes to bolster his options in the creative department.
The Reds are already said to be closing in on the capture of another Ligue 1 star in Renato Sanches of LOSC Lille. However, Liverpool do lack a proper alternative for the high-profile offensive duo of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, making Doku an appealing target.
The Belgian international has impressed with his dynamism and explosive nature in front of goal. Combined with his blistering pace, the 19-year-old will be an ideal fit in Jurgen Klopp’s Gegenpressing style of football at Liverpool.
However, signing Doku won’t be a walk in the park for Liverpool, with Rennes determined to keep hold of the attacker. The Ligue 1 outfit already have to cope with the potential sale of one of the other star players in Eduardo Camavinga.
The Frenchman has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United. It is a departure that could create a massive void in the club’s midfield unit, forcing them to enter the market for a replacement. They cannot afford the same for Doku, who is tipped to become a true star in Ligue 1 in the upcoming campaign.

All of this does not bode well for Liverpool, as far as their pursuit of Jeremy Doku is concerned. However, they do seem to be looking at other alternatives, with Real Madrid ace Vinicius Junior emerging as a shock option recently.
