Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly opened talks to secure the transfer of Fiorentina’s Serbian forward Dusan Vlahovic, who is a target for Juventus.
According to a report from football.london, Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic and have opened talks to explore the possibility of signing the striker from the Serie A outfit this summer.
Vlahovic, having come through the ranks at Serbian outfit Partizan Belgrade, made the switch to Fiorentina in the summer of 2018. The 21-year-old was integrated slowly into the first-team, following which he has established himself as a regular starter for the Viola. The 2020/21 campaign saw the young striker perform at his best level, as he produced a return of 21 goals and two assists from 37 Serie A outings.
Vlahovic’s performances have helped him garner a lot of attention, with Premier League heavyweights Chelsea and Liverpool having been linked recently while Serie A giants Juventus are also interested. Now, Tottenham Hotspur, too, have entered the race for the Serbian international as they look to embark on a new journey under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
Indeed, after a two-month wait, Tottenham finally appointed a permanent replacement for Jose Mourinho, with Nuno taking over the reins. The 47-year-old, along with the newly-appointed Managing Director of Football, Fabio Paratici, are looking to quickly get moving with the transfers, having identified Wolves’ captain Conor Coady as one of the first targets for the summer.
Now, Vlahovic has emerged as another target for Tottenham. The Lilywhites’ interest in the 21-year-old is justifiable considering that star striker Harry Kane is being heavily linked with a summer switch to Manchester City. Even if the 27-year-old England captain ends up staying put, Spurs have little in the way of cover for their talisman.
Indeed, Carlos Vinicius has returned to SL Benfica after his loan spell expired, while the likes of Troy Parrott and Dane Scarlett are still inexperienced at the highest level. So, a move for someone like Vlahovic would allow Tottenham to either directly replace Kane or use him as a cover for the England international, in case he does not leave in the summer.
To that end, the north London giants have opened talks with Fiorentina over a summer move for the 21-year-old, who is valued at £36 million. But with Juventus also in the fray, it now remains to be seen whether Tottenham are able to capture the signing of the talented Vlahovic or if the youngster decides to stay in Serie A either with Juve or Fiorentina themselves.
