Real Madrid have reportedly set their sights on Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot over a move in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Portuguese outlet Correio de Manha, as relayed by Sport Witness, Diogo Dalot has popped up on the radar of Real Madrid. The Spanish giants view the Manchester United defender as an option to ‘rejuvenate’ their defence and could battle AC Milan for his services in the summer transfer window.
Diogo Dalot arrived at Manchester United from FC Porto widely regarded as one of the best young defenders in the world while also having the Jose Mourinho seal of approval. However, in his two full seasons at Old Trafford, the young full-back failed to establish himself as the first-choice right-back, struggling to usurp either Antonio Valencia or Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer not rating him highly enough, Manchester United hauled Dalot off on a season-long loan deal to AC Milan. While the 22-year-old was not a regular at San Siro either, he did prove to be a useful squad option for Stefano Pioli and amassed 34 appearances while chipping in with two goals and three assists. And Dalot has now emerged on the radar of Real Madrid.
The Merengues are set to enter the transfer market for a right-back this summer, despite the contract renewal signed by Lucas Vazquez. That could potentially point towards Vazquez being utilised in attack once again, leaving Dani Carvajal and Alvaro Odriozola as the options for the right-back slot at Real Madrid.
Therefore, the eagerness to sign a right-back is understandable, considering Odriozola is tipped to leave Real Madrid this summer amid interest from Inter and AC Milan. With Dani Carvajal struggling with a few fitness issues this past season, it is a prudent move for Real Madrid to sign a right-back and to that end, they have now set their sights on Manchester United defender Dalot.
The interest comes straight from manager Carlo Ancelotti, with Los Blancos currently tracking the 22-year-old, who is seen as an option to ‘rejuvenate’ their defence, as per Correio de Manha (h/t Sport Witness). Apart from Real Madrid, AC Milan are interested in swooping Dalot away from Manchester United as well.
What now remains to be seen is if Real Madrid end up launching the offensive for Dalot in the summer transfer window, or if they press ahead with interest in another right-back, with Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Denzel Dumfries among those linked. As for Dalot, his future at Manchester United appears to be bleak.
