Premier League interest in Rennes hotshot Eduardo Camavinga grows as Manchester United enter the race alongside Arsenal.
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are interested in signing Eduardo Camavinga from Rennes this summer and could rival Arsenal in the race for the teenage sensation. Camavinga has just a year left on his Rennes deal and is unlikely to sign an extension.
Arsenal are actively seeking reinforcements in midfield and are looking at a variety of profiles across Europe. Anderlecht’s Albert Sambi Lonkonga is close to a move to Arsenal, but the club might be looking at additional options as well.
With Camavinga’s deal expiring in a year, the prospect of bringing a very young, talented midfielder seems appealing for Arsenal. However, there’s plenty of interest from other big sides such as Real Madrid and PSG. Now Manchester United have joined the chase for the teenage sensation.
Camavinga’s ability to play different roles and his all-round attributes as a midfielder make him such a hot prospect. Rennes are demanding a high transfer fee despite the relatively short period left on the Frenchman’s contract. However, clubs do believe an agreement could be reached by persuading Rennes to do business.
Manchester United’s interest in Camavinga is not new. The Old Trafford side is now concentrating on the midfielder as manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer feels the need to improve his current options. This may not be related to Paul Pogba, whose future at the club remains uncertain.
Camavinga could add something different to United midfield, especially after the failure of Donny van de Beek since signing last summer. United also have seemingly wrapped up the signing of Jadon Sancho and want to add more players.
Camavinga has plenty of options to choose from, with Real Madrid and PSG all showing keen interest apart from Manchester United and Arsenal However, with Madrid looking more closely at the expensive option of Kylian Mbappe and money shortcomings a factor, the Spanish side may not move for the Rennes ace.
As for PSG, they prioritise the signing of Achraf Hakimi from Inter Milan, leaving them short of funds for another big transfer this summer. That leaves the door open for a Premier League move with Arsenal and now United his options.
Camavinga could be a great fit for Arsenal’s emerging young core of stars and could very well start his big club career here. United, however, have the lure of a top club playing in the Champions League. It remains to be seen if either club decides to launch a move for the Frenchman and if so, it will be interesting to see who the 18-year-old chooses.
