Serie A champions Inter Milan are reportedly set to present an offer to sign Jordi Alba from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Inter Milan are interested in signing Jordi Alba from Barcelona in the summer transfer window. The Serie A champions are set to submit an offer for the Spanish international, with Barcelona likely to ask for a part-exchange deal.
Jordi Alba has established himself as one of the best full-backs of his generation since returning to Barcelona from Valencia in the aftermath of UEFA Euro 2012. Over the last nine years or so, the Spaniard has been a mainstay for both club and country, consistently being one of the better performers for both sides.
While there has been a slight decline in performance levels of late, Alba still enjoyed a solid 2020/21 campaign, with five goals and 15 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions to show for his efforts. However, heading into the summer transfer window, the 32-year-old faces an uncertain future at Barcelona.
In fact, there have been suggestions that Atletico Madrid are lining up a shock move for the Spanish international. The veteran full-back now has another big-name suitor showing a keen interest in him, with Inter Milan hot on his trails after sounding out Barcelona. And now, an offer is in the works as well.
Inter Milan need to freshen their squad up a little despite lifting the Serie A title this past season. In the wake of Antonio Conte’s departure and financial uncertainties borne out of the coronavirus pandemic, there are a few positions that need to be refreshed, left wing-back being one of those.
Ashley Young has re-joined Aston Villa while Aleksandar Kolarov and Ivan Perisic have some serious question marks surrounding their respective futures at San Siro. To that end, Alba could be the kind of player to not just replace one of the three options from last season but be a definitive upgrade, considering his exploits for Barcelona and Spain in 2021.

Barcelona, on their part, seem to be planning for life after Alba as well, having been linked with a number of left-backs, including Robin Gosens, in recent times. Cashing in on Alba could well help them fund the move for his replacement while also getting some massive wages off the books.
Barcelona, though, are also likely to ask for a part-exchange deal involving Alba, as per the report, although it is unclear whether Inter Milan would be open to such a deal. For now, what is clear is that the Italian giants are keen on signing the 32-year-old Spanish international, who could be on the move this summer.
