Transfer News: Carlo Ancelotti keen on Richarlison reunion at Real Madrid

Newly-appointed Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is keen on raiding former club Everton for the services of Brazilian forward Richarlison this summer.

According to a report from Football Insider, Real Madrid are lining up a swoop for Everton and Brazil forward Richarlison at the insistence of manager Carlo Ancelotti in the upcoming transfer window.

Ancelotti returned to Real Madrid as manager following the quitting of Zinedine Zidane. The 61-year-old Italian makes his way back to the Santiago Bernabeu after a successful stint between 2013 and 2015, during which he led Los Blancos to La Decima and other trophies. And, now that he is back at the helm, Ancelotti is intent on building a squad in his own image ahead of the new season.

To that end, the Italian is lining up a raid on former employers Everton, for the signing of Richarlison. The 24-year-old has been with the Toffees since 2018, having signed from Watford and has grown into one of the most exciting forwards in the Premier League. Although consistency has been an issue at times, he has still managed 42 goals and 9 assists in 119 matches for the Merseysiders.

Under Ancelotti, in particular, Richarlison showed fine form over the past eighteen months or so, although his form did tail off quite a bit towards the backend of the season. The versatile forward, who can play anywhere across the frontline, finished the 2020/21 campaign with a return of 13 goals and 3 assists from 40 games in all competitions.

Nevertheless, Ancelotti is of the belief that Richarlison can be a fine addition to the Real Madrid squad and would shine in Spain, as per the report. Heading into the new season, there is no denying that Los Blancos need reinforcements in the attacking third given as the likes of Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo Goes, Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio have all struggled to perform on a consistent basis.

This has meant that Karim Benzema has had to carry the goalscoring burden upon himself throughout and that is something which needs to be addressed at the earliest possible. While Kylian Mbappe remains firmly on the radars of the Spanish capital club, a wide player would also be a welcome addition at the Santiago Bernabeu.

This has led to interest in Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling, while Richarlison has now emerged as a viable target as well. Everton, for their part, would be open to selling the Brazilian international should he decide to push for an exit this summer. It now remains to be seen if Real Madrid act on the reported interest and make a beeline for the 24-year-old or look at other alternatives.
