Transfer News: Manchester United, Everton to battle for Kieran Trippier

Manchester United are reportedly being rivalled by Everton the race to sign Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid this coming summer.

According to a report by The Athletic, Kieran Trippier is the subject of interest from Manchester United and Everton over a move in the summer transfer window. The 30-year-old Atletico Madrid defender is keen on returning to England ahead of the 2021/22 season, with PSG also interested in him.

Trippier joined Atletico Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2019 following a productive four-year stint with the north Londoners. The move to the Spanish outfit has worked out well for both the club and the player, who has established himself as one of the best full-backs in La Liga.

Till date, Trippier has turned out 67 times for Atletico Madrid, even registering 11 assists in those outings. And, the 30-year-old has been an integral member of the side that looks primed to win the La Liga title this term. However, after two years in the Spanish capital, the English international is pining for a return to England, which has piqued the interest of Manchester United and Everton.

Manchester United had reportedly been in pursuit of Trippier in the January transfer window as well before a move failed to materialise due to non-sporting reasons. Heading into the summer, though, the continued interest from the Red Devils is unsurprising as well, considering Aaron Wan-Bissaka has played just about every game this term due to a lack of a backup.

Axel Tuanzebe and Brandon Williams have been utilised as right-backs on the rare occasions when Wan-Bissaka has been rested, but it is clear that Manchester United could do with a right-back. While the position has reportedly not been deemed to be a priority, a move for Trippier would be a prudent option, with Lucas Vazquez also being a viable alternative considered by United.

Everton, on the other hand, have started gradually phasing Seamus Coleman out of the first-team picture and it is, therefore, imperative that they sign a quality right-back, considering the alternate options in the first-team squad are makeshift options. To that end, Diogo Dalot, currently on loan from Manchester United at AC Milan, has been mooted to be an option, with Tripper now a target as well.

Apart from Manchester United and Everton, PSG are also keen on signing the 30-year-old, with Mauricio Pochettino keen on a reunion with his former Tottenham charge. However, with the player looking to return to England, United and Everton should hold the advantage in his pursuit. It now remains to be seen where he ends up next, with a summer exit from Atletico Madrid likely.
