Manchester United are reportedly in talks with Mauro Arambarri’s representatives over a potential move to Old Trafford in the summer.
According to an exclusive report from AS, Manchester United are determined to secure the services of Mauro Arambarri. The Getafe midfielder has emerged as a top target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is keen on bolstering his options in the middle of the park this summer.
A product of the Defensor youth academy in his native Uruguay, Arambarri has come a long way since his move to Getafe in 2017. He has become a first-team regular for the Spanish outfit, notching up 141 competitive appearances, 34 of which have come in the ongoing 2020/21 campaign.
Alongside Nemanja Maksimovic, the 25-year-old has created a formidable partnership in the middle of the park, impressing with his work rate and willingness to win back possession for his team. Arambarri has emerged as a target for Atletico Madrid as well, as the Spanish giants look to move on from Lucas Torreira as well as even Saul Niguez, with the Spanish international being heavily linked with a move to Barcelona.
Manchester United, meanwhile, are in the market for a new midfielder as well, in light of Donny van de Beek’s struggles since arriving at Old Trafford last summer. Nemanja Matic, too, is in the final phase of his career while Solskjaer is also keen on finding some extra competition for Fred.
Arambarri fits the bill perfectly for Manchester United as he can operate in the holding midfield as well as in the box-to-box midfield roles. His work ethic should tune in well with the likes of Scott McTominay and Fred while allowing Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes to become more expressive going forward.
Having notched up 128 appearances in La Liga, the Uruguayan international has a vast amount of experience at the highest level of football. In addition, he will have the opportunity to unite with his fellow countrymen in Facundo Pellistri and Edinson Cavani, who has recently extended his contract with Manchester United.
However, Manchester United’s pursuit of Arambarri could largely depend on their luck when it comes to offloading fringe players in the first-team. One of the big names linked with a move potential exit from Old Trafford this summer has been David de Gea, whose sale in the summer could serve as a major financial boost for the Red Devils.

It remains to be seen how much Getafe demand for the services of Arambarri, but with his contract expiring in two years time, it won’t be surprising to see Manchester United bagging a bargain this summer in Arambarri.
