Liverpool have reportedly begun vetting Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma as they prepare to make a move for the Malian international in the summer.
According to a report from Anfield Central, reigning Premier League champions Liverpool have stepped up their pursuit of Brighton & Hove Albion star Yves Bissouma by making enquiries over his personality and character as they line up a summer move.
Bissouma has been with Brighton since the summer of 2018, having arrived from French outfit LOSC Lille. He has been pretty much an ever-present in the starting XI when fit and available, going on to make 91 appearances for the Seagulls, in which he has four goals and an assist.
The 24-year-old has become renowned for his tenacity, strong tackling and ball-winning capabilities while he also exudes calm and composure when in possession. Having proven himself in the Premier League for three seasons now, Bissouma has popped up on the radars of several top clubs in England, with Liverpool among those interested in signing up the central midfielder.
After what has been a disappointing defence of their Premier League crown, Liverpool will need to strengthen their squad in order to bounce back stronger and climb the mountain back to the top once again. Reinforcements will be needed across all areas of the pitch, including the midfield department where the Reds are staring at the prospect of losing a couple of options.
Indeed, Georginio Wijnaldum could be on his way out of the club at the end of the season as his contract is up for expiry. In addition to the Dutchman, Naby Keita is also likely to be sold, with Liverpool having run out of patience with the Guinean. Throw in the misfiring nature of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner’s age, it is not hard to see why the Reds would be wanting to sign a midfielder this summer.
To that end, Bissouma has emerged as a viable candidate for the Merseyside giants. And now, Liverpool have stepped up their pursuit of the 14-time capped Malian international as they are making enquiries over his character and mentality before launching a swoop for him at the end of the season.
It has been reported previously that Brighton & Hove Albion will demand a transfer fee of around £40 million for Bissouma, who is also being targeted by the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United. With Liverpool taking steps towards formalising their interest, it seems like they might have edge over their rivals in pursuit of the 24-year-old. It now remains to be seen if Jurgen Klopp & co. are successful in their attempt to sign him up.
