Liverpool are reportedly closing in on the capture of former striker Luis Suarez amid uncertainties over Mohamed Salah’s future.
As reported by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Liverpool are about to make their first real coup in the upcoming summer transfer window, in the shape of Luis Suarez.
The Atletico Madrid forward is now being tipped for a sensational return to Anfield, with a clause in his contract allowing the Reds to sign him for free in the summer. Suarez’s arrival at Anfield could be a reactionary move from Liverpool, amid all the uncertainties surrounding Mohamed Salah’s future.
From a sporting perspective, Suarez is not a like-for-like replacement for the Egyptian international. However, it appears Liverpool are hoping to replace Salah’s productivity with the veteran striker, who has produced a stellar record in Europe over the years.
After departing Liverpool in 2014, the 34-year-old featured in 283 competitive appearances for Barcelona, scoring almost 200 goals. His contributions in the final third helped the Catalans secure four La Liga titles as well as one UEFA Champions League title. He was also a part of the iconic “MSN” trio during his time in Barcelona.
Suarez, though, found himself on the chopping block last summer, as he ended up joining Atletico Madrid. Yet, the Uruguayan forward has continued to impress with his goalscoring ability, having netted 19 times in the league this season.
It has left the Liverpool camp impressed as they look to find a better alternative for Roberto Firmino next season. Interestingly, however, the Brazilian has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid in recent weeks, in light of Suarez’s uncertain future at the club.
The Reds, though, should be more concerned about the future of Salah, whose productivity in front of goal has been key in the club’s success in the Jurgen Klopp era. Unfortunately, the Egyptian wizard has struggled with form and consistency in the ongoing campaign.

Salah has been also courted by a host of top clubs across Europe, with Real Madrid being touted as one of the potential destinations. As for Suarez, he could be a smart investment for Liverpool given the fact that the striker could be available for a free transfer. Klopp. though, might need still a long-term prospect who can become the face of the club’s attack in the years to come.
