Transfer News: Liverpool beaten to Kayky transfer by Manchester City

Manchester City have reportedly beaten Liverpool and a host of other clubs to secure the signing of Brazilian wonderkid Kayky from Fluminense.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Premier League champions Liverpool have faced defeat in their pursuit of Fluminense’s teenage forward Kayky, with arch-rivals Manchester City completing his signing.

Kayky, 17, came through the youth ranks at Fluminense and broke into the first-team this term. The young forward, who has been used on the right wing, has featured six times so far, bagging two goals and an assist.

Despite just breaking into the senior side, the teenage prodigy has already been tipped as the next big thing to come through in Brazil and has even been likened to Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar.

Reports of Liverpool’s interest in Kayky emerged earlier this year with it being claimed that the reigning Premier League champions were already in talks to secure the signing of the teenage sensation.

However, soon after it emerged that Manchester City had also entered the picture to snap up the youngster from Fluminense. And now it seems like the Cityzens have indeed beaten Liverpool as well as Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk to Kayky’s signing.

Reputed and reliable Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano, revealed on his Twitter account that the current Premier League leaders will be paying Fluminense an initial transfer fee of €10 million. In addition, there is also a 20% sell-on clause along with other add-ons and bonuses.

The youngster has signed a five-year contract with the club and will be making the switch to Manchester in 2022, where he will initially link up with the club’s youth team.

Liverpool have been on the lookout to strengthen their youth ranks robustly of late, having most recently recruited Derby County starlet Kaide Gordon. Last year they had worked on a deal to sign Marcelo Pitaluga from Fluminense but it seems like Kayky won’t be following the same path.
