Real Madrid are reportedly keeping tabs on Celta Vigo midfielder Renato Tapia over a possible move in the future.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Renato Tapia is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible future swoop. The defending La Liga champions view the Celta Vigo midfielder as a possible replacement and competition for Casemiro.
Renato Tapia joined Celta Vigo on a free transfer last summer following the expiration of his deal with Feyenoord. Since arriving in La Liga, the Peruvian international has established himself as a mainstay in midfield for the Sky Blues, missing just one game when fit and available.
His impressive performances have caught the attention of several clubs across Europe, none bigger than Real Madrid. In fact, the Merengues have had a closer look at the 25-year-old when they locked horns with Celta Vigo in La Liga this past weekend, as Los Blancos claimed a 3-1 win at Balaidos.
Tapia’s performance in that game was not quite impressive, with Toni Kroos and Luka Modric running rings around him. However, the report suggests that his sub-par display is unlikely to bring an end to Real Madrid’s scouting mission pertaining to him.
Having said that, the poor performance will have a bearing on the final scout report, even though Real Madrid are set to closely monitor his progress for the foreseeable future. The interest in Tapia, though, makes sense for Los Blancos.

For a few years now, Casemiro has been the only natural holding midfielder in the first-team squad at Real Madrid. And, whenever the Brazilian international is unavailable, the Merengues suffer at great lengths, thereby necessitating the need to sign another defensive midfielder.
So far, the only viable target to that end has been Eduardo Camavinga, although a move for the Frenchman is not set in stone. Tapia is, therefore, an option worth considering for Real Madrid, although it will be interesting to see if his performance in the game this past weekend affects his chances of joining the club.
For now, it looks like Renato Tapia is on Real Madrid’s radar and it remains to be seen if the reigning La Liga champions decide to launch the offensive for the Peruvian midfielder any time soon.
