Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a deal for out of favour Real Madrid defender Eder Militao in the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to reports from Defensa Central in Spain, Tottenham are looking for defensive reinforcements and have set their sights on Real Madrid defender Eder Militao along with making a permanent deal for loanee Gareth Bale, two players who have fallen out of favour at the Santiago Bernabeu, in the summer transfer window.
Eder Militao showed great potential initially after Real Madrid paid a hefty fee of €50 million to FC Porto for the Brazilian’s signature in 2019. However, the defender has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot for the Spanish giants.
The Brazilian has featured just six times for Real Madrid in all competitions this term. Zidane’s preference of Nacho Fernandez as a back-up for Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane has meant limited opportunities for Militao at the Spanish capital club and the 23-year-old defender could look for an exit in the summer to find regular game time.
Real Madrid are suffering from a financial recession due to the pandemic. However, they have been looking to secure finances for primary transfer target Kylian Mbappe and a new central defender in the summer transfer window.
Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, could look at several avenues to gather the funds with one of them being the sale of their out of favour players like Eder Militao and Gareth Bale in order to boost their incoming transfers.
Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho is on the lookout for a centre-back to bolster his defence given that the likes of Eric Dier haven’t performed consistently. The Portuguese had tried to secure the services of Eder Militao in the January transfer window and could look to revive his interest in the Brazilian international once again at the end of the season.
After a bright start to the season, Tottenham have hit a bit of a snag as they are currently eighth on the Premier League table. The north London club could look to improve their defence for next season and Eder Militao looks to be a strong candidate for that position.
The report also adds that Real Madrid would be open to listening to offers for the Brazilian. It now remains to be seen if Tottenham’s interest in the 23-year-old leads to anything substantial.
