Arsenal have reportedly set their sights on Andre Silva, who is being viewed as a possible summer replacement for Alexandre Lacazette.
According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Andre Silva is the subject of interest from Arsenal over a move in the summer transfer window. The Premier League heavyweights have identified the Portuguese international as a potential replacement for Alexandre Lacazette.
Andre Silva burst onto the scene in senior football at FC Porto back in 2015, when he was regarded as one of the most promising young strikers in Europe. However, the 25-year-old has taken some time to start fulfilling his immense potential, having struggled to make an impression at AC Milan before finally kicking on at Eintracht Frankfurt.
This season, in particular, Silva has been firing on all cylinders, with 20 goals and 5 assists in just 23 appearances across all competitions. His progress in Germany seems to have been noted, with recent links with Manchester United emerging. And now, Arsenal have also turned their attention towards the Portuguese striker.
As things stand, Mikel Arteta has a number of strikers at his disposal, including this season’s top scorer Alexandre Lacazette and captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, apart from options like Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah. However, Lacazette’s future at Arsenal is uncertain, with recent reports suggesting that he is set to depart the Emirates in the summer.
In addition, Eddie Nketiah continues to be linked with a move away from Arsenal, who are reported to have been open to cashing in on him this summer. That then leaves Aubameyang and Martinelli as the only other options for Arteta, who has majorly utilised the duo out wide during his tenure. Silva is, therefore, a viable target for the Gunners.
With the 25-year-old finally starting to click as a senior footballer at club level, the time could be perfect for Arsenal to pounce, especially if Lacazette ends up leaving. With another young striker in Odsonne Edouard on their radar, what appears to be certain is that Arsenal are likely to enter the market for a striker in the summer transfer window.
It now remains to be seen if such a reinforcement ends up being Silva, or if some other striker makes his way to the Emirates this upcoming summer instead.
