Liverpool are open to making a move for Kylian Mbappe in the summer, with Mohamed Salah likely to be axed.
A recent report by Marca has shed lights on the future of Lionel Messi that could have a domino effect across Europe this summer. PSG, for one, are keen on signing the Barcelona legend but may have to offload Kylian Mbappe, which is where Liverpool come into the fray.
Jurgen Klopp is said to be a keen admirer of the Frenchman and could be open to making a move in the summer. Liverpool may have to offload one of their star players in order to fund a move for Mbappe, with Mohamed Salah emerging as the likeliest one to make way for the PSG superstar.
The Egyptian international has had discrepancies with the club this season, with his former national teammate Mohamed Aboutrika sparking viral claims of his unhappiness towards the board earlier in the campaign.
Even from a sporting perspective, Salah’s performances have been quite inconsistent this term, despite the fact that the winger has netted 15 goals in just 21 league matches. There has been a lack of penetration in his game, which has seen Liverpool struggle to create chances and trail the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United in the title race.
At the age of 28, Salah is not exactly a future-friendly option either for Liverpool. As a result, the Reds may not find it particularly difficult to offload him in the summer, especially if it helps to fund a move for a star like Mbappe.
The French international is regarded as one of the best attackers in world football at the moment and promises to be the face of football in the post-Messi/Ronaldo era. His addition, therefore, can not only help Liverpool solve their attacking woes, but also serve as a massive marketing boost.
As for Salah, his departure could create a rather large void in the Liverpool offensive unit. But in Diogo Jota, the Reds have already found an excellent option upfront, and the Portuguese international could create a formidable attacking partnership alongside Mbappe and Sadio Mane at Anfield next season.
However, Liverpool are not the only club chasing Mbappe, with Real Madrid, in particular, determined to secure the services of the PSG superstar. Although the ongoing pandemic has crippled the club’s financial firepower at the moment, it won’t be surprising to see Los Blancos offloading the likes of Vinicius Junior and Isco in an attempt to land Mbappe in the summer.
