Manchester United are reportedly eager to secure the services of Kieran Trippier in the summer and could lodge a €20 million bid to land him.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Todo Fichajes, Kieran Trippier is a priority for Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window. The Premier League heavyweights intend to make the English international their first-choice right-back and a bid worth €20 million is likely to be tabled.
Trippier joined Atletico Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2019 following a fine four-year spell with the north Londoners. The 30-year-old has taken his career to newer heights since making the switch to the Wanda Metropolitano, where he has been a key figure for Los Rojiblancos.
Over the past 18 months, the English international has amassed 52 appearances for the Spanish giants, delivering nine assists in these outings. His continually improved performances have attracted Manchester United, who are in the market for a right-back as things stand.
Manchester United’s keenness to sign a right-back is not unfounded, considering the shortcomings of Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the attacking phase of the game. While the 23-year-old has been quite efficient at the back for the most part, he has shown little to no improvement with his end product in the final third, which is detrimental to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tactics.
As a result, a number of right-backs have been linked with a move to Manchester United, including the promising Norwich City defender Max Aarons. However, it is being widely reported that the Red Devils would rather prefer signing a more experienced right-back who can make an immediate impact at Old Trafford.
To that end, the interest in Trippier makes a great deal of sense for Manchester United. The 30-year-old is at the peak of his powers and has prior experience in the Premier League with Burnley and Tottenham, meaning he is likely to hit the ground running and give Solskjaer an added option in the right-back slot.
There have been claims that Manchester United were looking to land Trippier this month. However, the suspension handed out to him by the FA has scuppered their plans and Todo Fichajes are now claiming that United will make a move for the Englishman in the summer transfer window instead.
The report also adds that Manchester United will likely lodge an offer worth €20 million to secure his services, with Solskjaer installing him as the first-choice right-back, if he joins. What now remains to be seen is if the Premier League heavyweights do launch the offensive for him in the summer, and if he ends up returning to England to ply his trade in club football.
