Liverpool have reportedly contacted David Alaba’s agent over a possible summer move, although Real Madrid lead the race to sign him.
According to a report by The Guardian, Liverpool have established contact with David Alaba’s representative over the prospect of a move in the summer transfer window. However, Real Madrid remain in pole position to secure the services of the Austrian international when he leaves Bayern Munich.
David Alaba has enjoyed a scintillating spell with Bayern Munich over the past decade or so, wherein he has been a mainstay for the Bavarian heavyweights. Over this period, he has reinvented himself a couple of times, having featured as a left-back, defensive midfielder and centre-back, all while remaining a pivotal figure for a successful side.
However, it seems like Alaba is in the final year of stay with the German and European champions, having been at odds with the club over the terms of a new deal for a long time now. Set for a new phase in his career, the 28-year-old has naturally been linked with the who’s who of football in the continent, with Real Madrid and Liverpool currently in his pursuit.
Real Madrid have been a constant in the race to sign Alaba, with recent reports suggesting that they are ready to offer him a big-money deal to secure his services. The interest from Los Blancos makes a lot of sense as well, with Marcelo’s powers waning significantly while Sergio Ramos’s future at the club is highly uncertain.
With his ability to play as a centre-back and a left-back, he could be a viable option for Zinedine Zidane, wherever he deems fit, if he does end up joining Real Madrid. However, the Merengues are now facing stiff competition from Liverpool in the race to sign him.

Liverpool were linked with a move for Alaba back in the summer but those rumours soon dissipated as he ended up staying put at Bayern. Since then, the Reds, who are reported to be in the market for a centre-back, have been urged to sign Alaba, who could be a defensive solution for them next season, when Fabinho returns to his duties in midfield.
To that end, Liverpool seem to have established contact with the player’s representative to scour the possibility of signing him once his contract with Bayern expires in the summer. However, the report also makes it clear that Real Madrid are leading the race to sign Alaba, who has long dreamt of playing for the defending La Liga champions.
This comes in contrast to a recent report that had claimed that Real Madrid had hit a snag in their pursuit of Alaba owing to his wage demands. What now remains to be seen is if Los Blancos’ proposal of a long-term contract is indeed accepted by Alaba’s entourage, or if Liverpool swoop him away instead.
