Telles has been a part of the FC Porto setup since 2016, when he joined them from Galatasaray. Since then, the Brazilian full-back has been one of their mainstays in the side, delivering the goods consistently, be it in domestic football or in Europe.
In particular, Telles has dazzled with his attacking contributions, reaching double figures for both goals and assists last season. However, his future has been the subject of intense speculation all summer long, seeing as he has entered the final year of his contract with Porto. Early in the window the 27-year-old was linked with Chelsea, but Manchester United have been tailing him lately.
At Manchester United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer currently has Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams as the left-back options at his disposal. While Shaw is the resounding first-choice, the Englishman always has an asterisk around his name owing to his long history of injuries, which has even hampered his consistency.
Williams, on the other hand, has not appeared to be entirely comfortable playing as a left-back. And with Diogo Dalot set to join AC Milan, there is a sense that Williams could be better utilised as a right-back, with Solskjaer even deploying the youngster in the position in Manchester United’s only pre-season friendly, against Aston Villa.

As a result, it has been imperative for Manchester United to sign a left-back this summer, with Telles viewed as a viable target after the Red Devils failed to sign Sergio Reguilon. However, as has been the case in pursuit of Jadon Sancho, United had, for the longest time, been unable to reach an agreement with FC Porto over a transfer fee for Telles, with talks reportedly stalling in recent days.
Sky Sports also claimed that Manchester United had an offer for Telles rejected by Porto, who were intent on having their valuation met. Now, though, the reliable Fabrizio Romano has reported to the contrary, claiming that the two clubs have reached an agreement over a late €15 million deal for the player, who has had his heart set on joining United.
Romano further adds that only the last few details are left to be sorted, which ought to be done in the next few hours. Post that, the medical will be pencilled in and the official announcement will be made. A big move, at long last, for Manchester United this summer.
