Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman is reportedly on the radar of Manchester United, who view him as an alternative for Jadon Sancho.
According to a report by The Athletic, Manchester United seem to be keeping their options open in case they are unable to sign Jadon Sancho in the summer transfer window. The Premier League heavyweights have set their sights on Bayern Munich Kingsley Coman, who could be open to a possible move.
Coman initially joined Bayern Munich from Juventus on loan in the summer of 2015 before his move was made permanent two years later. During his stint at the Allianz Arena, the Frenchman has progressed considerably, largely doing justice to being rated as one of the most promising young wingers when he broke into the PSG first-team setup several years ago.
A player who has won a league title in each of the last 8 seasons, Coman has accumulated 158 appearances for Bayern Munich, although he has been blighted by injuries during this period as well. However, with Leroy Sane joining the German champions, the 24-year-old is at risk of falling down the pecking order. His uncertain position at Bayern has piqued the interest of Manchester United.
The Red Devils are in the market for a right winger this summer, with Jadon Sancho their priority. Recent reports have suggested that Manchester United are ready to make a bid for the Englishman, a player who can solve a long-standing issue at Old Trafford.
Sancho, with his qualities, will provide a twin-pronged boost to the Manchester United attack and it is no wonder that Jesse Lingard has recently urged him to join the club this summer. Having said that, the negotiations could drag on for a long time, with the transfer fee likely to be a stumbling block for United.
Reports have suggested that Borussia Dortmund will not budge from their valuation of the player, although they are open to the idea of selling Sancho for the right price. As a result, Manchester United need to lay down the contingency plan for the prodigious English international.
Ansu Fati is one of the players considered, but with Barcelona looking to bump up his release clause to £274 million, a move might be no-go before negotiations with the players can even begin. As a result, Coman has now emerged as a handy alternative for Manchester United.
The report claims that Manchester United have extensively watched Coman and are considering a possible move, although it is still not clear if they will propose a permanent switch or a loan. The Athletic also suggest that Coman would be open to a summer move. Meanwhile, the reliable Christian Falk has quashed the rumours, saying they are “not true”.
What now remains to be seen is if Manchester United are indeed going to make a move for Coman. For now, Sancho is the priority, although alternatives are also being discusses, from the looks of things.
