Manchester United midfielder Dion McGhee, who will be released at the end of the month, is attracting interest from three clubs including West Ham United.
According to a report from Manchester Evening News, Manchester United youngster Dion McGhee, who will be a free agent at the end of the month, is wanted by three clubs, including London giants West Ham United.
19-year-old McGhee has been with Manchester United since the age of six. Having come through the youth ranks, the midfielder made his debut for the club’s U-18 team back in 2017. Over the past couple of years, he went on to feature 33 times for the U-18s, bagging five goals and three assists.
The 2019/20 campaign saw the midfielder get a chance in the club’s reserve team. McGhee went on to make 9 appearances for the Red Devils in the Premier League 2, but failed to score or assist.
McGhee’s contract with Manchester United runs out on June 30, and the club have decided not to extend his stay. The midfielder took to social media to confirm his release, and posted an emotional goodbye message.
He wrote,”Since the age of six, all I’ve known is Manchester United. I’ve gone through the youth ranks and learned a lot within the academy. I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone at Manchester United Football Club, staff, players, coaches, managers and the fans who have helped and influenced me to become the player I am today.”
McGhee’s availability on a free transfer starting next month, has put a number of clubs on high-alert, with West Ham United among the interested parties.
The Hammers will be needing to bolster their midfield unit, as captain Mark Noble isn’t getting any younger, while Jack Wilshere continues to battle with injury problems. And hence, manager David Moyes is looking at the prospect of signing a midfielder from the academy of his former employers.
However, they will have to stave off competition from Scottish giants Rangers, who are also reported to be among the favourites to land McGhee, while there is strong interest from Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar as well.
