Manchester United are reportedly considering a summer move for Adrien Rabiot and are keeping tabs on his situation at Juventus.
According to a report by Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, Manchester United are closely monitoring Adrien Rabiot and his position at Juventus. The Premier League heavyweights could launch a move for the French international in the summer transfer window.
Rabiot rapidly progressed through the ranks at PSG before making the grade in the senior team in the 2012-13 season, aged just 17. He then proceeded to become a regular for Les Parisiens before making an acrimonious exit from Parc des Princes last summer, having ran his contract down. The 25-year-old would go on to join Juventus on a free transfer.
At Juventus, the going has not been easy for Rabiot, who has started just 16 games, with Maurizio Sarri choosing to ease him in after he missed nearly one year of action. As the season came to a halt due to the coronavirus pandemic, he did appear to be becoming a regular. However, a move this summer could beckon Rabiot, with Manchester United keeping tabs on him.
Paul Pogba’s future at Manchester United is as uncertain as it has ever been and it looks like the Red Devils could be open to selling him, having set a definitive price tag for him. If Pogba ends up leaving, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will need to delve into the market for a central midfielder.
To that end, Manchester United have been linked with a number of central midfielders, including talented and highly rated teenager Jude Bellingham. And Rabiot is another such player who they could target, in the scenario of Pogba’s exit.
Manchester United’s interest in Rabiot is not new, with the player also linked with a possible move last summer before he ended up picking Juventus as his next destination. At 25, he would be the ideal investment, considering his peak years are not too far now.
As a result, Manchester United are monitoring Rabiot’s situation at Juventus and will take a call on whether they will take further steps to secure his services. In fact, the report claims that Manchester United have already had the player closely observed in action several times this season.
What will now be interesting to see is if Juventus are open to selling the player after just one year. The report does claim that the Bianconeri are not entirely opposed to the ideal of offloading him to Manchester United, seeing as they stand to make a lot of profit on his sale.
With the COVID-19 outbreak affecting finances of most clubs, player sales might become important this summer. With that in mind, it now remains to be seen if Manchester United do make a concrete move for Rabiot, who could be on the move in the upcoming transfer window.
