Signing a left-back is a priority for Barcelona this summer window, with Layvin Kurzawa coming up as the lead runner for the role.
According to a report published by SPORT, Laywin Kurzawa is on Barcelona’s radar with the Spanish club in the market to sign a backup for Jordi Alba. The unsettled defender is in the final few months of his contract and will soon become a free agent.
Kurzawa, now 27, is often in and out of the PSG side and is not expected to renew his contract. The report says that the Frenchman is ready to try out his luck elsewhere.
He joined the French capital club in 2015, but has hasn’t become a sure shot starter for the club, averaging about 17 starts per season.
In 2019/20, Kurzawa has appeared 14 times, and only 9 times as a starter. He has scored 1 goal and has no assists to his name. His clean sheet numbers are remarkably low as well: a grand total of 3. He does, however, have his name in the history books of the prestigious Champions League as the only defender in the modern game to net a hat-trick in the aforementioned competition.
The 27-year-old’s agent has a good relationship with Barcelona, and has reportedly given the club the priority over the signing of the would-be free agent. He is the same agent who represents Philippe Coutinho and Neto.
Barcelona signed Junior Firpo as a backup to Jordi Alba and a long-term replacement, but do not seem to trust him enough. The Blaugrana would have to get rid of the Spaniard if they want to give the second-choice role to Kurzawa.
Initially, the French left-back wanted to get the negotiations done with, but in context of the current health scenario of the world, both the parties have decided to wait before moving into further talks.
The Catalan giants want Kurzawa to sign a short-term deal so they can buy a long term replacement for Alba and sell the former to make a profit.
The former Monaco defender has been linked to Arsenal, Chelsea, Napoli, Liverpool, Milan and Inter Milan. But given Barcelona’s relationship with his agent, the Catalans seemingly have the upper hand in the race to sign the Frenchman. Moreover, the player himself prefers a move to Camp Nou, as per the report.
Even so, the La Liga champions need to pull up their socks if they want to secure the services of Kurzawa.
