Arsenal are considering making a move for Real Madrid star Luka Jovic, with Mikel Arteta reportedly eyeing a loan move this summer.
According to Daily Star, as cited by The Sun, Arsenal are ready to make a move for Luka Jovic this summer. The Real Madrid forward has been apparently identified as the desired replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who, in turn, has been linked with a move away from Emirates.
Manager Mikel Arteta wants to sign Jovic on loan as he prepares for life without Aubameyang next season. The Gabonese international has already impressed a host of clubs across Europe and is also even open to a move to FC Barcelona.
As a result, Arsenal are now left with a job of scouring the market for a potential replacement. And it could certainly be a difficult task given Aubameyang’s incredible success in the Premier League.
Since joining the club in January 2018, the ex-Borussia Dortmund forward has netted 61 goals in just 97 competitive matches. He notably finished the 2018/19 Premier League campaign as the league’s joint-top scorer alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
Coming back to Jovic, however, things have been quite the opposite. The Serbian joined Real Madrid last summer, after an incredible campaign in the Bundesliga that saw him score 17 goals in 32 matches for Eintracht Frankfurt.
But, at Real Madrid, Jovic has found it difficult to impress Zinedine Zidane. As a result, he has rarely been given first-team opportunities, having mustered only 391 minutes of league football. He has also netted only two goals, which is clearly unacceptable for a player who cost €60 million.
At Arsenal, however, the ex-Red Star starlet could be given the ideal platform to showcase his talents in one of the best leagues in Europe.
Unlike Real Madrid, the Gunners will be able to provide him with an adequate number of first-team appearances. Even though the Gunners already have Alexandre Lacazette, the Frenchman has failed to make himself a prolific figure in front of goal this season. Hence, Arteta could fancy finding an alternative next season, and that’s where Jovic comes in.
Moreover, a loan move makes perfect sense as securing the services of Jovic on a permanent basis is also a huge gamble. He has failed to prove himself in La Liga and to thrive in a fast-paced nature of the Premier League could be even more difficult.
Even then, however, Arsenal are guaranteed to face stiff competition in the pursuit of this Real Madrid sensation. Tottenham Hotspur, in particular, have been linked with a move for the striker and soon more clubs may join the race as Jovic’s transfer saga begins to hot up.
