Victor Lindelof has signed a new five-year deal with Manchester United which will keep him at Old Trafford till June 2024, the club announced on Wednesday.
Manchester United have made an official statement to confirm that they have secured the long-term future of Victor Lindelof. The Swedish centre-back has put pen to paper on a new five-year contract with the Premier League heavyweights, who also reserve an option to extend it by a further year.
Victor Lindelof joined Manchester United from Benfica in the summer of 2017, arriving at Old Trafford amid a lot of hype following a promising stint in Portugal. But, the Swede struggled considerably in his maiden campaign with the Red Devils, begging the question as to whether the investment made in him would pay off.
However, Lindelof hit back at his naysayers with performances on the pitch, having been one of the more consistent players in a dismal season for Manchester United. With the player managing to carve out a place for himself in United’s first-team setup, there have been reports suggesting that he would be rewarded with a bumper new deal.
The speculation has now turned out to be true, with Manchester United handing Lindelof a new five-year deal. The fresh contract will see the 25-year-old commit the next five years of his career to the Red Devils, who also retain the option to extent his stay by a further year at their behest.
Upon putting pen to paper on his contract extension, Lindelof expressed his happiness while iterating just how grateful he was to Manchester United for the growth he has projected over the last two years.
“Since the day I arrived at United it has felt like home. I have grown significantly both as a player and as a person in the last two years and for that I am grateful to everyone at the club for their help and support. I love playing football and my aim now is to help the team to win trophies and repay the fans for their unrivalled support.”
“I know that everyone at the club shares this vision and will give everything to get Manchester United back to where it belongs. I’m still young and know I can improve further but with the help of the boss and his coaching staff, I believe that only good things are ahead for this great club.”
It’s an honour to play for this club and I can’t wait to do so for many years to come. My future is only red. #MUFC pic.twitter.com/LZc63Ynib2

Lindelof is the second core player whose stay has been extended by Manchester United in the past week, with David de Gea also signing an extension with Manchester United.
Manchester United fans will now hope that with the long-term partnership forged at the heart of the defence with Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof can return to his best form and guide Manchester United on the path to returning to their glory days.
