Barcelona have reached an agreement with Getafe over a season-long loan deal for Marc Cucurella, only days after re-signing him from Eibar.
Barcelona have made an official statement to confirm that they have reached an agreement with Getafe over a season-long loan deal for Marc Cucurella, mere days after re-signing him from Eibar. Getafe also have an option to buy the La Masia product at €6 million, with the La Liga champions receiving 40 percent of any future sale to a third party.
Cucurella is a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy and went on to make his first-team debut for the Catalans in a Copa del Rey encounter against Real Murcia in October 2017. However, following that appearance, the left-back did not feature ever again for the Spanish champions, before joining Eibar in the summer of 2018.
The initial deal between Barcelona and Eibar for Cucurella was of a season-long loan, with an option of making the deal permenent at the end of the season. The 20-year-old impressed heavily for Eibar, racking up 33 appearances across all competitions, scoring and assisting two goals apiece.
This prompted Eibar to make his transfer earlier this summer, for a fee of €2 million. Barcelona, though, decided to trigger a buyback clause, re-signing Cucurella for €4 million earlier this week on Tuesday. However, the Catalans are set to offload the defender again, with Getafe being his next destination.
Barcelona have reached an agreement over another season-long loan deal for the 20-year-old full-back, this time with Getafe. In addition, the Blaugrana’s fellow La Liga side also reserve an option to buy Cucurella for a mere €6 million, although the Spanish champions will get 40 percent of any future sale of the player to a third party.
Barcelona lack a cover for Jordi Alba in the left-back department ever since the departure of Lucas Digne. The signing of Cucurella would have provided manager Ernesto Valverde with a solid option, considering his development over the past season with Eibar.
However, the La Liga heavyweights seem to have their eyes set on Real Betis starlet Junior Firpo. Barcelona are reported to have made an offer of €20 million plus a player, Juan Miranda, in order to secure the 22-year-old’s signing.
As far as Cucurella’s situation is concerned, his return to Barcelona was short-lived. The 20-year-old is set for a new journey on-loan after spending one year in the Basque country, this time in the Spanish capital, with the move now over the line.
