Real Madrid are reportedly willing to offer Spanish international Marco Asensio in their bid to sign Liverpool forward Sadio Mane this summer.
According to a report by Express, Real Madrid believe they have an ace up their sleeves as they look to sign Sadio Mane in this summer’s transfer window. The La Liga heavyweights are ready to offer Spanish international Marco Asensio as part of the deal to sign the Liverpool winger.
Mane joined Liverpool from Southampton in the summer of 2016 and made such a strong impact in his maiden campaign at Anfield that he was named the Reds’ Player of the Year in 2017. After a relatively subdued 2017-18 season, the Senegalese forward was back in his elements last term.
Mane played a pivotal role in a successful season for Liverpool, with 26 goals and 5 assists, as they finished runners-up in the Premier League before going to win the UEFA Champions League. And, his exploits have piqued the interest of Real Madrid, as per widespread reports.
The continued interest from Los Blancos though, comes as slightly surprising, seeing as they have already bolstered attack by signing Eden Hazard and Luka Jovic this summer. With the likes of Vinicius Junior, Marco Asensio, Lucas Vazquez and Brahim Diaz also at Zinedine Zidane’s disposal, apart from the out-of-favour Gareth Bale, Real Madrid seem to have enough personnel in attack.
But, the Merengues are now ready to use Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s interest in Asensio to sign Mane. The Spanish international, who is also linked with Tottenham, endured a tough 2018-19 campaign, with just six goals and seven assists in 44 appearances for Real Madrid across all competitions.
But, in previous seasons, Asensio has shown enough quality to warrant Klopp’s interest in him. At 23, his best years ought to be in front of him and could thus, be moulded by the Liverpool boss to fit his style. And, Real Madrid are ready to offer the Spanish international in the swap deal that sees Mane head the other way.
But, with Mane admitting to his desire to become a Liverpool legend earlier this year, it is hard to see Real Madrid swooping him away from Anfield. But, it will be interesting to see if the reported swap deal does anything to sway Klopp and the Reds, with Asensio being a top target for the Merseyside club’s manager.
For now, it looks highly unlikely that a swap deal will be brokered, with Sadio Mane being happy and content at Liverpool. It remains to be seen though, if Real Madrid can do anything to land their man, or if they are forced to end their interest in him instead.
