Paul Pogba, who is a summer target for Real Madrid, has admitted that he is open to a new challenge this summer and exit Manchester United.
As quoted by Daily Mirror, Paul Pogba has claimed that he is ready to embark on a new challenge next season. Real Madrid have thus, received a major boost in their bid to swoop the French midfielder away from Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
Pogba has been the lynchpin in midfield for Manchester United since returning from Juventus in the summer of 2016. While the Frenchman has had his fair share of ups and downs and also a few controversies, there is no denying the fact that he is the player through whom the moves flow for the Red Devils.
The 2018-19 season turned out to be a damp squib for Manchester United. But, Pogba enjoyed his most productive campaign, with 16 goals and 11 assists, to be the most prolific contributor for United. However, there have been lingering fears at Old Trafford over his future following his comments alluding towards sealing a dream move to Real Madrid.
Real Madrid have done a marvellous work in rebuilding their squad after an abject 2018-19 season. With four signings already sealed for the first-team, Los Blancos look to be heading in the right direction ahead of the forthcoming campaign. But, midfield remains one final area of concern that must be addressed.
Toni Kroos looked a shadow of a player who has dominated Spanish and European football for years while Luka Modric is evidently in the twilight of his career. Returning midfielders Mateo Kovacic and James Rodriguez are set to be a part of the transfer list, leaving Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane with Federico Valverde, Dani Ceballos and Isco as the only other options.
Pogba is thus, a viable target for Real Madrid, who have reportedly contacted Manchester United over a possible summer move. And, the latest comments by the 26-year-old would only add to the concerns of Manchester United fans.
Speaking to reporters in Tokyo, Pogba said, “Like you said, there is a lot of talking and a lot of thinking as well. For me I have been for three years in Manchester and have been doing great; some good moments and some bad moments, like everybody. Like everywhere else.”
“After this season and everything that happened this season, with my season being my best season as well… I think for me it could be a good time to have a new challenge somewhere else. I am thinking of this: to have a new challenge somewhere else.”
The latest comments are the clearest indicators yet that Pogba is ready to leave Manchester United. What now remains to be seen is if Real Madrid, or any other suitor, launch the offensive to sign him this summer and if so, what stance do Manchester United adopt.
