Real Madrid are reportedly set to prioritise the summer pursuit of enigmatic French international Kylian Mbappe, who is growing in frustration at PSG.
According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Real Madrid have reignited their interest in PSG forward Kylian Mbappe amid a squad overhaul that is set to be completed in the summer transfer window. The French international is growing frustrated at PSG and could be open to the switch to the Bernabeu.
Kylian Mbappe has been one of the hottest properties in Europe ever since he burst onto the scene with AS Monaco in the 2016-17 season. After playing a pivotal role in the principality club’s shock Ligue 1 triump, the French international was snapped up by PSG, who initially signed him on a season-loan loan deal.
Last summer, Les Parisiens made his stay at Parc des Princes permanent, and the player has only continued to grow in stature this term. With a staggering record of 31 goals and 15 assists in 35 outings across all competitions, Mbappe has been one of the most prolific players in Europe. And, Real Madrid have come calling for the 20-year-old.
Los Blancos’ failure to fill the void left by the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo last summer has been one of the major contributing factors to an underachieving season thus far. With both Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari unable to galvanise the squad, president Florentino Perez had no choice but to return to Zinedine Zidane, who was reappointed as the Real Madrid manager earlier this month.
Upon making a strong start to his second stint at the helm at the Bernabeu, Zidane is placing an emphasis on revamping his squad so as to launch the charge on all three fronts next season. Eder Militao is set to be Real Madrid’s first signing in the summer, and the latest target for them is Mbappe.
Mbappe had, in fact, been linked heavily with the La Liga heavyweights last summer as well, before they squashed those rumours by denying the links with the French international. But, if the report by AS is anything to go by, Mbappe is the priority for Real Madrid this summer.
The report also adds that the soon-to-be-deposed European champions could stand in good stead in pursuit of the World Cup winner, following his family’s comments alluding towards a move to the Spanish capital in the summer.
Those comments are also in sync with Mbappe’s own position when previously quizzed on the prospect of moving to Real Madrid – the player had failed to rule out a switch to the Bernabeu. And, to make matters more promising, the French international is growing frustrated at PSG after being fined €180,000 for showing up late for a team-talk.
Finally, AS also add that with CAS reopening a previous case against them, PSG could be forced to sell a top player so as to balance their books to the tune of €150 million. All signs are thus, pointing towards Kylian Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid being a possibility and it remains to be seen if Zinedine Zidane can bring his compatriot to the Spanish capital in the summer.
