Real Madrid are reportedly set to reignite their interest in Liverpool superstar Sadio Mane, who has a keen admirer in Zinedine Zidane.
According to a report by France Football, Sadio Mane is the subject of interest from Real Madrid once again, with Zinedine Zidane eager to secure his services in the summer transfer window. The Liverpool superstar had also been pursued by Los Blancos last year before a move fell through upon the departure of Zidane.
Sadio Mane has stepped up to the next level since joining Liverpool from Southampton in the summer of 2016. The Senegalese international was an instant success at Anfield, playing a leading role in the Reds’ bid for a top four finish before finishing the season as the club’s Player of the Year.
From his second season, the spotlight has firmly been on Mohamed Salah. But Mane has continued performing at high levels, and is in contention to win the Premier League Golden Boot this term – only Sergio Aguero has more goals than him so far. His exploits have surely not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid keen on the Liverpool superstar.
Changes are afoot at the Bernabeu, with Zinedine Zidane returning to the managerial hotseat after failures of Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari. Real Madrid have already made their first signing, having reached an agreement with FC Porto for Eder Militao.
And, if widespread reports are to be believed, Los Blancos are set to launch the offensive for players that had previously been top targets for Zidane last summer. One such target is Mane, who, as per the report, had even agreed personal terms to trade places from Liverpool to Real Madrid last summer.
For a long time, Eden Hazard has been reported to be a priority summer target for Real Madrid. The renewal of interest in the 26-year-old, however, makes sense, considering how prolific he has been for Liverpool over the course of this season.
In addition to his goalscoring record, Mane has shown incredible versatility in the current campaign, having been equally adept at leading the line as he is out wide. This ability to play across the frontline makes him an appealing prospect for Real Madrid, who have not succeeded in laying down a succession plan for Karim Benzema.
So, it looks like Real Madrid are set to launch the offensive for Sadio Mane in this summer’s transfer window. What now remains to be seen is if the player is again open to the idea of making the switch to the Bernabeu, or if he decides to stay put at Liverpool, especially seeing he signed a new deal with the Reds earlier this season.
