Ander Herrera is reportedly set for a bumper new three-year deal at Manchester United that will see him pocket £100,000 per week.
According to a report by The Sun, Ander Herrera is poised to commit his long-term future to Manchester United. The Spanish midfielder is ready to put pen to paper on a new three-year contract that will set the Premier League heavyweights back by £100,000 per week.
Ander Herrera joined Manchester United from Athletic Bilbao in the summer of 2014, a year after the Red Devils had reportedly failed to secure his services. Over the last four-and-a-half years, the Spaniard has gone through many ups and downs, going from an indispensable figure to a bit-part player every alternate season.
The player though, has largely enjoyed a successful stint at Old Trafford, having even been named Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year in 2017. And, after a slow start to the current season, the 29-year-old has become a mainstay in midfield, especially under the tutelage Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
In fact, ever since the Manchester United legend took over as caretaker manager from Jose Mourinho, Herrera has missed just two games, having been rested in each of those matches. More important than his constant involvement has been the fact that he has become the glue that holds the side together, playing a key role in the output on both ends of the pitch.
The same was evident in United’s 2-0 win over Chelsea in the FA Cup on Monday. But, while his importance in the Manchester United first-team squad cannot be stated enough, for a long time, there were concerns over his future at the Old Trafford, with his current deal set to run out in the summer.
However, recent reports had suggested that the Red Devils had begun talks with Herrera over a new contract. The Sun now claim that United have inched a step closer to tying the 29-year-old down to a bumper new deal that will see him commit the next three years to the Premier League heavyweights.
The announcement of a new contract with continue a trend that has seen Manchester United agree renewals with Anthony Martial, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and most recently, Ashley Young. As far as Herrera is concerned, the Spanish international will sign a £100,000-a-week deal.
If the report indeed turns out to be true, Manchester United will have successfully tied another key player down to a new deal, in a series of renewals that will put the club in a strong position, with most of the core players having secured their long-term futures at Old Trafford.
